New York | Importanti risultati per la fotografia!

The spring auctions of international contemporary photography were held in New York in early April. The sales generated significant results, a sign of the ever-growing international interest in fine art photography.

In this brief study, we would like to analyze and highlight the results of the works of some of the authors we have proposed, whose works have attracted considerable attention and have attracted considerable interest from various bidders.

Photographs. Sotheby's  -  7 April 2021

We'll begin with Sotheby's "Photographs" auction   , which ran from March 20th to April 7th, a sale that was conducted entirely online.
Approximately 160 lots were offered, bringing in a combined total of approximately $2.1 million.
Four works of interest to us in this auction achieved excellent results, with hammer prices well above their maximum.
We begin with  Vik Muniz  's "Convergence: Number 10, after Jackson Pollock (from Pictures of Pigment) ," estimated at $40,000-60,000, which sold for  $50,400 .
The same auction also featured a photograph by Tina Barney"The Daughters," from the "Europeans"  series  . With an estimate of $7,000-10,000, this work nearly doubled its price, selling for  $18,900 . The "Top lot" of this auction, in terms of the award, was certainly  Catherine Opie 's work "Untitled #7 (Surfers)"  which, starting from an estimate of $20,000/30,000, was sold for  $107,100 !

Photographs. Phillips April 8, 2021

The day after the Sotheby's auction, a live photography auction was held at Phillips's headquarters at 450 Park Avenue, New York.
The auction included 256 lots, totaling $5.5 million.
We observed several of the lots in this auction, and the results far exceeded our expectations. Tina Barney  's  "The Hands," also from the "Europeans" series  , estimated at $7,000-9,000, sold for  $16,380. Catherine Opie 's photograph
