We'll begin with Sotheby's "Photographs" auction , which ran from March 20th to April 7th, a sale that was conducted entirely online.
Approximately 160 lots were offered, bringing in a combined total of approximately $2.1 million.
Four works of interest to us in this auction achieved excellent results, with hammer prices well above their maximum.
We begin with Vik Muniz 's "Convergence: Number 10, after Jackson Pollock (from Pictures of Pigment) ," estimated at $40,000-60,000, which sold for $50,400 .
The same auction also featured a photograph by Tina Barney , "The Daughters," from the "Europeans" series . With an estimate of $7,000-10,000, this work nearly doubled its price, selling for $18,900 . The "Top lot" of this auction, in terms of the award, was certainly Catherine Opie 's work "Untitled #7 (Surfers)" which, starting from an estimate of $20,000/30,000, was sold for $107,100 !
